Wow! It is already the middle of April and it's been a month since the last time I actually sat down to write a blog post. And as usual, I had to get up before the kiddos to do it. Likely I'll only get ten minutes before at least one of them wakes up.
Many of you already know this, but Michelle accepted a position as a professor at Florida State University so this summer we will be moving to Tallahassee, Florida. We never saw ourselves living in Florida, but this job sounds like a great fit and after getting two inches of snow here last week, the idea of warm weather year round sounds pretty darn appealing! Michelle and I went down to Tallahassee a month or so ago on a house hunting expedition and found a great house. It has a mid century modern feel and is nice and open. It still needs some updating (kitchen & baths) but I think it's going to be a great house for us. And if you ask the kiddos about our new house in Florida, the only thing you will hear from them is "It has a pool!" They are already so good in the water, but now I have new incentive to have them truly swimming by the time we move! Yesterday I took them to the pool in the morning and when I mentioned going to the pool Avery says "my pool in Florida?!"
This impending move is probably the biggest reason that I haven't had any time at all to blog lately because it feels like every spare moment is being spent comparing/contrasting mortgage estimates, homeowners estimates, answering emails, scheduling moving companies for estimates, or selling things on Facebook mommy swap sites. I am in major purge mode, trying to get rid of toys they don't play with anymore or have outgrown, clothes that don't fit or that we won't need once we move to Florida (good bye snowpants!), and generally trying to pare down our "stuff." What I really need is a weekend, probably more like a week, of kiddo and work free time to really be able to focus on this, but that's not likely to happen so I just keep doing little bits here and there.
Michelle is in the middle of collecting data for her dissertation and there is never enough time in a day for her to do everything she needs to for school either. I have a feeling that we aren't going to see much of her this summer as she comes into serious crunch time and I know she is already feeling sad about it. But hopefully, once she gets this done and gets settled into her job at FSU we will get more family time.
8:45pm Well, that wasn't too bad...I actually got to write a little bit this morning! And tonight Michelle is at a friend's house writing so I am letting the laundry sit unfolded in the basket and ignoring the mess on the train table to take a bit of time to finish this.
When we were in Tallahassee house hunting I had a meet-n-greet with a pediatric clinic in town. An hour later they called and offered me a job. (note: they did not ask me a single question, which confirmed my assumption that this was NOT an interview!) Anyway, after a lot of thought I decided not to accept the job. They were very willing to work with me on a part-time schedule, but a few things just didn't feel right to me. I was struggling to figure out how to write a "sure I'll take the job, but I don't really want to" email when I got a call from the Early Steps coordinator for the area and after that conversation I felt very confident that the best plan is for me to start my own business seeing early intervention clients and billing the state directly. It will definitely take a bit of additional work up front (just what I need, right!?), but in the end, I know it's the best plan. It gives me the most flexibility to do what I want to do, when I want to do it, and how I want to do it. I am excited about this new venture, but now I need to add "start a business" to my already long to-do list!
We are planning to move towards the end of July. We will close on the house in June, but our lease here goes through July 25th and we aren't in a rush to leave, especially since the weather in Florida in July is going to be super hot and sticky! And we are trying to eek out as many fun adventures with our friends here before we leave. We are so going to miss our Moms of Multiples crew here and the kiddos are going to miss their friends. Thankfully, the new house has lots of room so we're hoping they will come visit!
As always, we welcome visitors, both here in State College before we move (ahem...Auntie Mary & Uncle Phil, that spaghetti dinner still hasn't materialized!) and after we arrive in Tallahassee!
